The Informatics Department of The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Management
is the main department training experts in Informatics.
Current development of information technologies requires experts who can solve a wide spectrum of problems, who know various
systems, possess a high standard of knowledge in various IT spheres, particularly the knowledge of mathematical disciplines.
The department performs teaching the widest range of IT The disciplines, such as Databases and Information Systems, Internet Technologies and Programming Languages, Modern Means of Distributed Data Processing, System Programming, Operating systems, API Basics,Programming Technologies, Dedicated Database Management Systems, Database Management Systems, Multimedia Technologies, and Special Programming Languages.
The students of the Informatics Department also study various mathematical disciplines, such as Mathematical Analysis, Probability Theory, Differential Equations, Optimization Methods, Decision Theory and others. There is also a number of courses which are intended for extending students' knowledge in IT area and its applications, such as The Algorithms Theory, Mathematical and Information Support for Complex Signal Processing Systems, Pattern Recognition Methods and Systems, Investing Dataware, and Bank Marketing Dataware.
Joint studying of mathematical and IT disciplines allows preparing experts who can solve any software development and information system problems: from the design and definition of necessary mathematical models to the ready systems introduction. Graduates of the Informatics Department possess the necessary knowledge to accomplish any of the following problems: information systems design, necessary mathematical models creation, database design and creation, software product development and implementation.
Due to profound training, the graduates of Informatics Department can easily find a professional job in national and privately owned enterprises of our country as well as abroad.
Main scientific direction of the Informatics Department is mathematical models for complex data
processing development, such as images in computer vision systems.
Now teachers and employees of the department explore new areas where the scientific achievements could be implemented – application of computer vision systems at custom-house (introscopy), in planes landing, in conveyors. The research is also carried out for increasing the efficiency of e-learning, e-books production, introduction of new program technologies for knowledge base and expert systems development.
The Department has published more than 470 scientific articles, 5 monographs, 9 textbooks
signed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 37 inventions have been made, most of them are applied in the industry, the following textbooks were published in 2005:
